FOX HELP:
AIIT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

STEP 1.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE A SICK/ MANGY FOX ON YOUR PROPERTY
MANGE EXAMPLES: SLIDESHOW
1.1
Refer to pictures below to try to determine if the fox has mange
-
Foxes molt (shed) their thick winter fur, beginning in late Spring, and often leads to a “scruffy” or “piebald” appearance – which can be confused with mange.
1.2
Text AIIT pictures of the fox in question to (609) 491-3511 with the following details:
-
YOUR NAME
-
LOCATION/ PROPERTY ADDRESS
(including city/town)
OR
Fill out the FOX HELP form in the footer of this website.
Remember:
-
We cannot set up traps on any property without homeowners’/tenants’ permission.
-
We cannot set up traps on public property, parks, or areas where 24/7 monitoring and access isn’t possible.
1.3
We will assess the pictures to try to determine if the fox needs help, and if so, we will make arrangements to set up and monitor a trap on your property.
STEP 2.
WHAT IS THE AIIT TRAPPING PROCESS?
2.1
A baited trap and camera will be setup on your property.
2.2
You will also receive access to monitor the camera, which will also be closely monitored by our volunteers
2.3
You may be required to release untargeted wildlife who go into the trap.
2.4
You may be required to re-bait the trap regularly.
Remember:
We are not always immediately successful in trapping the targeted fox/foxes- the process is a marathon, not a sprint.
STEP 3.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE FOX IS TRAPPED?
3.1
One of our volunteers will be out within an hour (day or night) to assess and transfer the fox to a carrier, and the fox will then be transported to one of our partner NJ licensed wildlife rehabbers for treatment.
3.2
The trap and camera will be removed, unless there are multiple foxes we are trying to catch at your location. Then the trap will be cleaned and re-baited.
STEP 4.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE FOX IS REHABBED?
4.1
Our volunteers will keep you informed of the foxes condition and progress.
As well you can follow all our fox stories on the AIIT website- News section, or on our AIIT Facebook page.
4.2
Once the rehabber deems the fox is healthy and ready for release, we will contact you with a release date/time.
4.3
The healthy fox/foxes will be released where they were trapped.
STEP 5.
A THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS & STAFF.
5.1
We’re run by unpaid volunteers, so any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated.
Our preferred minimum donation is $250 which offsets the costs of travel to re-bait and reset the trap, bait, PPE for the trapper and transporter, fuel, etc.
We also appreciate items purchased from our Amazon wish list.
